1890-1918. English poet of the World War I
period. Trained as an artist at the Slade
school in London, Rosenberg enlisted in the
British army 1915. He wrote about the horror
of life on the front line, as in `Break of
Day in the Trenches'. Like that of his
contemporary Wilfred Owen, Rosenberg's work
is now ranked with the finest World War I
poems, although he was largely unpublished
during his lifetime. After serving for 20
months in the front line, he was killed on
the Somme.
